Vampire stories are, more often than not, based in the old days. By "old days" I mean that they can occur anywhere from the dawn of time to the early twentieth century. Gift of the Nightflyer is one of those that do take place in the old days. It opens in the year eighteen hundred and seventy three. I for one am glad that I was not around during those days. I am too dependent on cars and indoor plumbing.
Count Ignatio Magonoff, being a good and kind lord, stops to help a stranded carriage on the side of the road in his land. A beautiful woman, in the middle of the night, on a road in the woods--what gentleman wouldn't stop? He invites her to stay at his home for the night, until her carriage can be fixed. Even her driver will be treated to the same hospitality as she is.
Lady Leslie Anastasia Romanoffski of Muskovich is not as delicate as she appears. She is a vampire who has survived for centuries feeding off the scum of society, but never killing them. She has decided she now needs a mate, and the Count is perfect for her. She must drink from him three times, the third bite occurring under the light of the full moon.
However, will he be the male she wants, or will he be something else that she cannot handle?
Ms. Summers has written a wonderful story. It sucked me in like a cyclone and would not let me go until I read the very last word. However, I would have enjoyed this book so much more if it were not for the grammatical errors. That aside, this is a story that is not for the faint of heart.
Some of the scenes, while not necessarily violent, do have genital piercing of Leslie and blood sharing between the two of them during sexual actions. If you are uncomfortable with things like that, I do not suggest this book. But if you like things with a bit of spice, and a new look at things, then definitely check this out and I assure you that you will not regret it.
