Investigative Detective April Stevens had sworn off sex. Not exactly what she wanted to do, but then again, she didn't want the burden of causing serious injury to any more men. Each time she'd gotten intimately involved with someone, he ended up hurt. And "April Accidentally" wanted no more maimed men on her conscience, thank you very much. Shouldn't be that hard. Until this latest assignment. Going undercover at a company that created ultra-sexy bed linens was bad enough. But when she laid eyes on the marketing genius she was supposed to be investigating--well, Rex could make even a nun rethink her vow of celibacy!
Independent marketing consultant Rex Holt was very good at his job, due in large part to being so thorough. When he took his new "assistant" on the road with him to test the new line of bedding in various markets, he knew his greatest challenge was April. She was so full of energy that the poor woman never stopped moving. How on earth would he get her to stay still long enough to seduce? Miraculously, April seemed to feel the same attraction he did. When Rex finally hit upon a way to help April relax--massage was a wonderful thing!--they shared some of the most incredible sex either of them had ever had. Now Rex just had to convince April that it wasn't a fluke. They were perfect together now, and they'd be perfect together always.
The company they worked for was experiencing a bad case of "Sex on the Brain" lately, which was why April got recruited. Every e-mail inbox in the company was receiving sexually suggestive e-mails, but no one knew where they were coming from. The president of the company, April's Aunt Wil, knew instinctively that Rex was innocent, but to appease the shareholders, she asked April to keep an eye on him. April was convinced Rex was not responsible for the naughty e-mails, but she needed to prove it. Meanwhile, Rex was convinced that April's overabundance of energy was actually due to a largely unheard of condition called electro hypersensitivity, or EHS. The late nights spent online researching that without April knowing were the same nights that April was worried he might be doing something he shouldn't be, like sending sexually charged e-mails. Finally deciding to find out once and for all, she hacked into his computer system. Once she was able to get proof to Aunt Wil of Rex's innocence, April was able to face the fact that she was in love with Rex. Well great! Now what?
BETWEEN THE SHEETS is so steamy, so stimulating, and so hot that I felt like I needed a cold shower when I got through! The sparks between Rex and April were electrifying! I loved April's unique dilemma--highly sexual, but not trusting herself to not hurt anyone else. And Rex's approach to April was wonderful. Here was a man who put more thought into his partner than simply accepting her at face value--a man who cared enough about the person to find out how to work around the problem. It was a unique and creative twist on the traditional white knight!
Jeanie London certainly created a winning combination with Rex and April, and BETWEEN THE SHEETS is definitely one book I'll be reading again!
