Bret Thornton was a practical man. Years of clandestine work had ensured that. There was no reason to be freaked out by a simple drive past an empty construction site. So what if the radio went haywire, only playing saxophone music while he drove by, and the temperature inside the car dropped by thirty degrees? If he thought hard enough, he could explain all that away. But when he saw a woman on the side of the road all bloodied and ragged, he didn't quite know what to think. Bret had met her briefly at his cousin's wedding the week before. Right before she disappeared from in front of his eyes, she told him to warn "her" of danger. Warn who? What danger?
Emilienne Pelletier hadn't heard from her twin sister, Yvette, in over a week, and she was becoming frantic. When Bret walked in the lounge where she sang mistaking her for Yvette, Milly knew she had to talk to him. She wasn't prepared for his overbearing attitude or insistence on taking over the search for Yvette. Milly went along though; she really did need someone else to help her. The dreams she had been having lately were leaving her more scared than ever. It helped that she felt so secure and safe with Bret. And it didn't hurt that she was undeniably attracted to the man!
When Bret and Milly discovered Yvette had been murdered, they began finding clues leading to the killer. Milly's dreams were getting more explicit, Bret had encountered Yvette's ghost on two occasions now, and there had been attempts on their lives as well! When it looked like the killer was the same man that had just married his cousin, Bret wondered who Yvette had wanted him to warn in the first place. But there was no way he was leaving Milly alone to figure it out. For a man who figured he'd die a bachelor, falling in love with her didn't surprise him at all. And when the killer trapped Milly, she realized she couldn't die without telling Bret how much she loved him as well. She had to believe Bret would find her in time.
GHOST OF A CHANCE is an exceptionally well-written, suspenseful story guaranteed to keep you hooked until the last word! Ms. Lloyd's characters are so real I can almost put myself in the middle of all the action! Milly was an endearing, vulnerable, determined woman. Bret was what every woman secretly dreams of: sexy, smart, charming, with a "take-charge" attitude. The way these two connected on both a physical and emotional level was pure magic.
GHOST OF A CHANCE has once again proven why Dee Lloyd can compete with the "big girls" of romance writing! The incredible way she combines realistic characters in settings that may not be as real to most people is the reason I'll keep looking for more from her to read!
