The premise of The Witching Hour is that a necklace is bequeathed in 1692 to be delivered to a specific person in a specific town over 300 years in the future. Intriguing huh?
All kinds of questions arise from that statement. How do they know the person will exist? How do they know the name of a town and state which do not yet exist? And exactly what kind of necklace is this to be so important to go to all that trouble? See why I had to read this one? There was no way for me to resist all those hows and whys!
Attorney Jack Hawthorne is intrigued by the 300-year-old bequest he must complete, but he's more intrigued by the recipient. Meeting Abigail feels like coming home to him . . . comfortable and so familiar. He is not, however, comfortable at all with the memory dreams he seems to be having or the danger which Abigail seems to be in since arriving in Salem. The more time he spends with her and the bigger the danger appears to grow, the more he wants to protect her--again.
Abigail came to Salem to pick up the necklace and do a little harmless site seeing, but there is nothing harmless about the strange things happening to her. She loves Salem itself; the feelings of belonging there make it a bit eerie. As far as having Jack as a personal tour guide, it's too perfect. Then why is she having such disturbingly realistic dreams of the Salem of old, and exactly who seems to want her gone . . . permanently?
I am a paranormal fan, and have been as long as I can remember. So it is not really surprising I loved this paranormal witch tale. However, because I am such a paranormal fan I have read literally hundreds of this type of story. So it is a bit surprising when I find one that is as well crafted as this one!
Ms. Lieb has created a tale full of suspense, history, intrigue, and fascinating characters you can identify with. She takes you on a tour of Salem so vivid that it makes you want to plan your next vacation there. There is the occasional twist to keep you on your toes, but nothing too far fetched or outlandish that would ruin the story's flow. Abigail and Jack are fun to watch as they find first each other, and then . . . so much more. I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a paranormal tale done the way they are meant to be!
