Book 1 of the Dareville Stories
At the center of this story is Brady Garriston, a legendary rock singer. Brady is just returning from a six-month trip traveling around Europe. He doesn't want to be tied down but still wants a relationship. This instability is what caused up and coming lawyer, Claire Walker, to dump Brady just before his spur of the moment trip. So Brady arrives back in New York feeling his age and lonely.
In a move to shake up his life and hopefully get rid of his writer's block, Brady closes his New York apartment and buys a house in the small town of Dareville, Virginia. He hopes that all of this will lead to a new album--the first in years--and hopefully prove to Claire that he can settle down.
But it's a small world. After moving to Dareville under an assumed name, Brady meets Ellie Shaw, Claire's cousin. Ellie turns out to be nothing like Claire. She is a small town teacher who is looking for excitement, adventure, and a reason to explore her sensuous side. Soon Brady finds that Ellie inspires him in every way that Claire didn't and he begins to write again. Ellie finds that Brady is the perfect partner to explore all the fantasies that she has kept hidden. Things are looking up for the couple until Claire suddenly comes to town wanting Brady back.
I found Truth or Dare to be one of those books that is too slow the first 60-70 pages, but that improves as you go along. A large part of those first chapters was about Brady bemoaning the fact Claire would not have anything to do with him and that he needed sex. It wasn't until his move to Dareville and meeting Ellie that you really see him as a whole person. The second half of this book was a vast improvement. You begin to see Ellie and Brady's dreams and desires; you see them as caring and giving people.
Truth or Dare is an interesting story about a rock star and his insatiable sexual appetite. Brady's career is dry and he needs to develop some new work, so he gives himself a change of scenery. The love scenes are spicy, hot, and interesting. The first sex scene in the book is between Gary and another male. That was a change of pace. There is also a group sex scene that does include some male/male action. If these activities offend, take note and don't indulge in this wicked game of Truth or Dare. Ellie is a cute, innocent character who quickly gets in touch with her wilder side. Brady is an attractive, extremely sexual male who meets his match. Truth or Dare is an interesting story with a cliffhanger at the end. Definitely a different read.
