Review:

I admit it; I have a thing for Highlanders. When I came across this title it had me quickly going to the blurb for info. Highland Beast by Regina Carlysle didn’t disappoint. Be prepared for a hot alpha male and a hot romance when beginning this read.

Martha is an empath who has removed herself from the company of others. She has always felt awkward in groups and doesn’t like being able to read their emotions. One day she picks up an antique mirror she is drawn to in a store and later that night begins to feel lust and loneliness coming from it. Curious, she goes over to the mirror and rubs over some strange symbols she notices on it. In doing so, instead of her reflection looking back at her, a giant wolf stretched across a bed.

Silas MacAdam, a wolf shape-shifter, has been trapped in a magical realm for three hundred years after rejecting the affections of a powerful witch. He has everything he could want, except for companionship. He has been waiting for a woman pure of heart to free him. When he sees Martha through the mirror he feels she may be the one.

Martha enters Silas’ world through the mirror, unable to ignore her own lust he draws out from her and a heated romance begins. Questions arise as to whether or not they can go back to the present. Then the witch, who has held Silas captive all these years, shows up and is determined to have Silas for her own.

Highland Beast has a bit of everything to keep your eyes peeled to the pages; time-travel, shape-shifting, a sexy highlander man-beast that will make you melt. Martha and Silas had an almost instantaneous love, but it worked really well for the storyline. There were one or two bits in the novel that I wish were elaborated on. All in all this was fast-paced and full of steamy goodness. Regina Carlysle is an author I hope to read much more of. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this read.
