The Storm Lords was my first attempt at intending a series of books. At the time, Michelle Pillow’s Lords of the Var series was pretty big, as were other books centered around siblings and groups of heroes. I enjoyed them and decided to write my own. To my delight and surprise, the books continue to sell well. They each made the Fictionwise bestseller list and earn high ratings.
But why is this series doing well? Because brothers can be so much fun.
I love the dynamics between siblings. There’s something rough and tumble about the inherent dysfunction of close-knit male members in a family, so I decided on brothers. And to make them even more special, made them quadruplets. A new tetrarch to run the kindgom. The Royal Four. Fun with four sexy men, what could be better?
Magic, parallel worlds, Light versus Dark, and the death of a ruling royal family. All of it came together to build the Storm Lords.
The land of Tanselm will fall to evil if the Tetrarch, four identical princes wielding elemental powers, do not find their intended brides. Thrust into the parallel realm of earth to escape death and insure a future for their world, they have one mission and one mission only--to find their destined mates.
Such begins the five book series of the Storm Lords. There are four books currently published with NCP, one for each brother. But I’d always intended the series to have five books.
The Fire Within: Storm Lords book one Darius, the Prince of Fire
Below the Surface: Storm Lords book two Marcus, the River Prince
Gale Season: Storm Lords book three Aerolus, the Wind Mage
Aftershocks: Storm Lords book four Cadmus, the Earth Lord
Book five, Guardian's Redemption, is finished but needs tweaking. The book will be read as a stand-alone and wraps up the Storm Lords with Arim’s tale. Arim is the uncle to the Royal Four, and Tanselm’s most powerful sorcerer. He has unfinished business with a certain Dark Lord (the term is gender neutral), the sister of his greatest enemy. It’s a great story but also a troubled one, because the world I’ve created is very involved. I have to write this story for people who haven’t read the first four books. And I also have to answer the questions and concerns posed in the other four for those who want a resolution. I’ve already rewritten the first chapter twice and just added a new beginning to make the rest of the story easier to swallow.
I’ve had a lot of questions about this last book and am just sorry it’s taken so long to come out. Oddly enough, in writing this last book I came up with more ideas for two secondary characters I fell in love with in other books who make a reappearance in this one. So we’ll see if the series stops here or not. Only time will tell.
