Vivian Zabel retired after twenty-seven teaching English, composition, newspaper, and literary magazine. During her years of teaching, she attended writing workshops and clinics, not only to be a better teacher but also to hone her own skills.

Following her military father around the world exposed her to cultures and ideas which added to her life's experiences, used in her own writing over the years. A wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother adds to the material woven into her writing.

Vivan had edited writing for over thirty years and reviewed for almost that long.
