I have all of Cheyenne McCray's books and some of my absolute favorites are her Wild series. There is just something about a lawman and a damsel in distress or, in the case of Ms. McCray's damsels, a woman ready to stand up for herself when in distress. Soooo, Chosen Prey was an absolute must have.
Lyra Collins is living the quiet life, making a living for herself as an artist in Arizona. She is finally convinced she's safe. Safe is a new feeling for Lyra after being on the run for five years from a cult leader who is determined that she is the woman to bear his child, who he feels will the next Messiah. Unfortunately, that feeling of laying down roots and believing that the psycho, Neal, won't track her, is gone all too soon.
When the cult members show up at Lyra's door to take her back, all she can do is grab a few things and make a run for it again. Starting over in a new place is a habit for Lyra. Over the years, she has learned all the tricks to lose herself in the faceless crowd.
Dare Lancaster is a former cop turned PI hired by Lyra's "uncle" to find her. But when Dare discovers he has accidentally led the cult directly to her door, he decides that he doesn’t like being used. And since he led them to her, he may as well find a way to keep Lyra safe and formulate a plan to take out the cult itself. However, keeping a hold on Lyra poses quite a problem; she has learned not to trust anyone, she's scared to death, and she has an independent streak a city block long. Once he gets hold of Lyra though, it'll be for keeps, whether Neal likes it or not.
Chosen Prey by Cheyenne McCray is sexy and sinful with a roller coaster ride full of action and emotions that make this book a must-read for all romantic suspense fans. Readers will fall in love with both Dare and Lyra. Lyra is a strong amazing woman: independent, witty, and passionate. Dare is, of course, every woman's fantasy man: dominant, honest, trustworthy, and definitely hot. These two characters were off the charts, both in bed and out. And as much as I loved the romance between the characters, I loved the plot even more. Ms. McCray knows how to enthrall readers from the very first chapter. The cult storyline was magnificent and readers will be fascinated from beginning to end. People say that Cheyenne McCray has stepped away from her usual genre and made her first foray into the suspense genre. But for me I find that with Chosen Prey she returns to the intense loner lawman of her Wild stories. She has a real genius who knows exactly which elements work best together. Her fans will be begging for more with every release. I cannot wait to read more “lawmen stories” from Ms. McCray, hopefully in the near future. Chosen Prey is one that you will have to tell all your friends about.
