Step 5: Where do I go from here

[Back

I finished the first book in my new series, Devils on Horseback: Nate. Publishing contract is in hand and signed. Yay!

Where do I go from here? I know I wanted to write a story for each of the devils, so it's time to move onto my sophomore effort in the series, Book 2.

You know it's funny, as soon as a reader finishes Nate's book, I get the question, when's the next book being published? Kinda makes you feel good as a writer. *preen* However, it's also a kick in the pants to get busy writing that next book.

Jake's story was actually a bit more difficult to write. Why? Well, because when I was writing Nate's story, I had all the freedom in the world to do whatever I wanted. I created the characters, their history and simply let the story tell itself from there. Book 2 has to match book 1.

For example, you give a character a horse named Smoke, let's say it's an Appaloosa, in book 1 of the series. In book 2, you're writing about that character riding his horse and suddenly it's a mustang named Thunder. *wince*

There are more conventions to follow the further along in the series you get. The good news is, if you stick to the rule about recording all those details in a document or spreadsheet, then you can refer to them as you write.

I guess that's it for me this week on Behind the Scenes. I hope I haven't bored everyone to tears and perhaps helped someone in their quest to write a series. Thanks to Allie for allowing me to share my cranial scary moments with y'all. :)

Happy writing!
