At least, that is how I chose to see what happens when on the atomic level something is responding to something on whatever nerve center has detected as an irritant. In this case, it happens to be someone, somewhere, smoking a weed of some sort or other. Such things make my nose itch and if exposed long enough, a headache. So I figure on the atomic level, I must be having a mass rave going on in my sinus cavity and hence the itch to the headache. If that is the case, I assure you only the atoms are having any fun with the involuntary inhalation of substance of intoxication.
You probably guess I was the wet rag at any party going on in my dorm in college on weekends. Yep, most of the time, I would be mean and in the middle of winter (which in Rochester NY would start early September for this California girl). I bundle up, crank the windows wide open, leave my room and go off somewhere else to do my school work. Come back with a bunch of hung over or spaz out kids complaining how freaking cold it was. At least I could enter my room and BREATH. Oh and for Parties that were start up without my say so in the parking lot of my apartments later? Yeah, I called the cops and I kept calling till they arrived! Now why did I do something so mean as that? Oh gee, maybe having a few of my girl friends raped at such happenings? Yeah, I was the prim proper prudish girl in college everyone knows, but shucks, what WAS her name?
If you did not know it then, I will tell you now, she (or more rarely) he, was provably also the resident smart ass science fiction geek nerd. She was the one that could help you on those tricky problems of homework. Though, in my case, do NOT come to ask for help on Math. Any other subject, sure. We also were the ones who blended in the background and wrote sarcastically true comments in the local paper junkie, the advisors to better looking local school political Jocks and the investigators that made the school board nervous.
I speak not however of me and my alone. I speak of all of us who however we did it stood up and said. This is not right, I am going to do something about it.
We have helped shaped the world and guess what, we are just starting. The people who change the world are those who read about it as much as they live in it. We push for improvements where we work, live, love, and think. We write letters, make calls, and read all that we can. Here is to you my fellow Novel-spotters in any shape and form you may be.
Here is to our diversity which brings us our unity.
