Book #3 of the Harley Jean Davidson Mysteries
Virginia Brown’s wise-cracking heroine Harley Jean Davidson is back in her latest adventure. Evil Elvis is the third in the series that brings Harley and all the zany characters that surround her to life. It's hard to find a book in this genre these days that is refreshing and fun to read, so after reading the blurb for Evil Elvis I knew I had to get it.
Harley is back to work for Memphis Tour Tyme. Things have been going well in the romance department with Mike Morgan. It’s been a couple of months since she has been attacked or found a dead body, so life is good. Just as she thinks her life has returned to normal, she finds a dead Elvis in the back of her van. Harley really tries to avoid Elvis week. Her job as a tour bus driver gets hectic enough without a bus full of devoted fans singing Elvis songs all the way to Graceland. It’s the yearly convention for the Elvis impersonators and the busiest time of year for Memphis Tour Tyme.
It’s not that she doesn’t like Elvis, after all, her father, Yogi, is not only a huge fan, but he enters the Super Bowl of Elvis impersonators contest every year. But this year is different, one of the impersonators is targeting other Elvis impersonators for death.
To be involved in another murder case is the last thing she wants, but Harley soon realizes the killer is after her, too. So when the third body shows up in just a matter of days, the police begin to think that there are just too many dead bodies turning up wherever she is. And if that isn’t bad enough, undercover cop Mike Morgan puts their hot relationship on hold when he says that he’s on the job again and he can't afford to be distracted.
Add to the mix a best friend who cons her into fostering a new pet, Harley’s own Siamese cat disappearing, and a great-grandmother who is off her meds and shooting up the town. Can it get any worse? Oh yeah. Just when she thinks the murders are solved, Harley comes a little too close to an early grave.
This is a wacky, off-the-wall mystery with a hilarious cast of characters. In addition to a good mystery, this book is filled with humor. Evil Elvis is so entertaining you'll walk around with a smile on your face. I have read the rest of the series but Evil Elvis just might be the funniest one yet. It is delightfully entertaining and truly a pleasure to read. Do yourself a favor don’t miss Evil Elvis and the rest of Harley Jean’s antics in King’s Ransom and Deadly Design. There is a fourth book is in the works. I can hardly wait.
