Review:

Set in New York City in 2060, JD Robb’s Lt. Eve Dallas series (Naked in Death, etc.) offers her usual engaging characters. Along with the usual is the long-awaited arrival of Mavis’s baby. I know that I for one have been anxiously waiting for this book.

This latest installment opens with both Eve and Roarke attending a birthing class with Mavis and Leonardo shortly before the arrival of the baby. There they meet Tandy Willoughby, a single and very pregnant mother-to-be, who Mavis has taken under her wing. A recent immigrant from London, Tandy has few friends in New York, and no family-and she was really looking forward to the baby shower that Eve was throwing for Mavis and her baby.

Eve's investigation of the brutal murders of accountant Natalie Copperfield and her fiancé Bick Byson becomes entangled with the search for Tandy, who mysteriously vanishes shortly before her due date. The investigation leads to white-collar fraud that Copperfield discovered at her high-profile accounting firm, while Willowby's disappearance may be part of a series of abductions.

Under normal circumstances, Tandy’s disappearance would be turned over to Missing Persons. But Mavis wants Eve, and no one else but Eve, on the job. Of course, Eve can't say no. In the race to find this particularly vicious killer,
Eve faces an all-too-real danger in the world of flesh and blood. And with the expertise of her multimillionaire husband Roarke, the search leads to some of the city's richest and most secretive citizens and their underhanded double-dealing. Predictably, the two cases converge, and the mystery's solution becomes obvious.

As always, Nora Roberts’ best-selling Born In Death written under her JD Robb pseudonym, is a winner. Those readers who follow the adventures of Eve and Roarke will truly enjoy the often-sarcastic wit, and fast pace action of this newest tale. And those of you who are looking for a well-written story with more than its fair share of humor, romance, suspense and a touch of mayhem the "In Death" series are not to be missed. Another great edition to add to my collection!
