Screenplay Competition: American Zoetrope

In its first 30 years, American Zoetrope has produced some of the most important films in American cinema. At the core of this success is a steadfast dedication to storytelling. In the words of founding director Francis Coppola, who won his first Oscar for the screenplay of Patton, "the story is the foundation upon which all else is built."

Early Deadline: August 1, 2007 ($35)

The winner's and ten finalists' scripts will be considered for film option and development by American Zoetrope, Samuel Goldwyn Films, Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, IFC Entertainment, Paramount Classics, Icon Pictures, Working Title, Dimension Films, Antidote Films, Bull's Eye Entertainment, C/W Productions, Exile Entertainment, The Film Department, First Look, Frelaine, Greenestreet Films, Matinee Pictures, Michael London Productions, Number 9 Films, Phoenix Pictures, Pretty Pictures, The Schiff Company, This Is That, Roserock Films, Benderspink, Room 9 Entertainment, Industry Entertainment, Nine Yards Entertainment, and Ziskin Productions.

Those writers will be considered for representation by ICM, UTA, Paradigm, William Morris Independent, The Gersh Agency, CAA, and The Firm.

When you enter the 2007 American Zoetrope Screenplay Contest, you'll be given and asked to agree to the Official Rules and an Agreement Form.

Reality Show Casting Call: The Ultimate Author June 16 FLORIDA

Applicants vying to be The Ultimate Author must attend a casting call in Dania Beach, Florida, which is five minutes from Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport. The casting call will be held June 16, from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, 180 SW 18 Avenue, Dania Beach, Florida.

Potential contestants must bring a laptop (charged), flash/jump drive and creativity.

Applicants will be asked to do an on-camera interview, which will be used to determine if the potential contestant has the charisma, personality and overall ability to be The Ultimate Author.

If the potential contestant passes the on-camera interview, they will be asked to write a chapter in a book. Applicants will be given one hour to write their entries. They will be judged on their writing ability, creativeness, punctuation, and spelling.

Interviews will be conducted in groups of 30. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis, from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Short Story Crime Fiction - $100 prize Deadline April 3 2007

In memory of Al Blanchard, co-chair of the first three New England Crime Bake Conferences, NEMWA President and member of Sisters in Crime, the New England Crime Bake Committee is sponsoring the third annual short crime fiction contest. The prize is $100 plus publication in Level Best Books' fifth anthology of short crime fiction. The story must be a crime story by a New England author OR with a New England setting, previously unpublished (in print or electronically) , no more than 5,000 words in length, and may include the following genres: mystery, thriller, suspense, caper, and horror, with no torture/killing of children or animals. This is a blind contest with NO entry fee. The winner will be a guest of the Crime Bake Committee at the New England Crime Bake, held
in November, where the award will be presented in person.
