Review:

I find the need to confess all. I have several of Delilah Devlin’s works waiting to be read, but so far, as with much of my e-book collection, I just haven’t managed to get around to them yet. This is, therefore, the first of this author’s work I have read (as usual *grin*). Silent Knight is a beautifully written White Hot Quickie that is a must for Devlin fans (especially My Immortal Knights followers, since this is loosely connected to that series), White Hot Quickie fans and anyone who just plain likes a good read.

Noelle Moyaux is a young woman who is doing what everyone else in New Orleans is doing in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina: trying to survive. Previously a substitute teacher, Noelle is now a palm reader by day, making use of her unique gift. Often, both she and those around her question the existence of her gift, since she was unable to foresee the hurricane coming. Trying to make the best of a bad situation, Noelle nevertheless wouldn’t manage with the nest egg she had built up before the devastation. Making her way home one night, Noelle is stunned when she comes into contact with an individual so pained, so tortured, that he is going to take his own life when dawn breaks. She determines to stop him, though she does not understand his thoughts. A thousand years old? Surely he is confused in his own mind. She searches for him and upon finding him has him accompany her home, this man who is looking for a last night with a good woman and a fine wine. Together they experience bliss, both finding something neither had been looking for, nor expected to find in times of great disaster. But just what is he, this tortured soul? Can Noelle help? Will he leave her with happy memories, or none? What great evil is yet to come?

Though a fairly short story, being a quickie, Silent Knight is nevertheless an enjoyable paranormal tale that does have a slight Christmas theme running through it but is perfect to snuggle up with on any night, no matter the season or that Christmas has now sadly passed us by. Well written, there is enough character development to leave you satisfied after reading it. Anyone who likes tales where there are tortured souls, or stories where characters have special gifts that are not commonplace amongst us should definitely give this one a try. Devlin fans should also pick this one up; whilst I have not yet read any of this author’s other works, I know that if they are up to this standard, they will be thoroughly enjoyable, with myself unable to put them down. A great read, recommendable at any time of the year.
