Dean Koontz, author of The Bad Place, By The Light of The Moon and many other truly remarkable novels, again wrote another one that will long be remembered.
In this book, a Hollywood kid--the lonely and neglected, but still kind and intelligent son of an admired movie star--becomes the main target in the eyes of a seemingly unstoppable serial killer. There's only one person who has the chance to protect him: the head of the security staff of the mansion, an ex-cop called Ethan who needs all the help he can get. One of his friends, another cop, is also trying to find out what is happening, but it is not a very easy task to do.
The book is full of imaginative ideas, especially as for the presence of the supernatural, as the world presented in it is one where ghosts can step out of the mirror, the dead make phone calls, and visions can help you to survive.
A plot of a book by Koontz usually includes many twists, and the characters he uses are always nice and loveable. He can also regularly come up with some exceptionally frightening ones, and this book is no exception. In this particular story, many strange and inexplicable things happen to the main characters and one can clearly feel, on each and every page, that danger is imminent.
This is a very exciting book with many scary events. One of the merits of Koontz's writings is that he never uses violent scenes for the sake of violence itself; it's not just for shocking the reader, as these scenes always serve a purpose. They are employed in the way it is best for the story to be told, and that is usually a great one.
Whether you like Koontz's books or you are just simply fond of exciting and well-written stories, do not miss this one. It is well worth every minute you spend reading.
