Slaves of the Theocracy
Erotica vs. pornography--what is the difference? Pornography is written exclusively to excite, with no other purpose. The word erotica is derived from Eros, the god of love, and in it, sensuality and sexuality meet with at least some effort of artistic expression and style. In many cases, the fine line between erotica and pornography is a false dichotomy and can be blurred. But not in this case. This is pure pornography from start to finish.
What we have here is a male bondage fantasy, a story of a lesbian woman of earth as earth is taken over by a sadistic race. Theresa, the unfortunate heroine--or victim in this case--sees her female beloved captured by a "capture mine," a demonic device that wraps the unfortunate captive in a wire webbing before it encases them in a kind of horrid tiny Lucite prison until the aliens get there to check their traps. Theresa herself is captured, branded, raped, tortured, and bundled into a forced bondage environment of electronic (and other) abuse. And that's just the first chapter.
There's not much I can say that is positive about this book. It is roughly the caliber of what can be found by grazing on the Internet for amateur pornography. In fact, I've seen many better amateur stories to which it would be a definite insult to compare them. It was such a bad read that I was rather amazed that this is a reprint. The writing is uneven, with flights of heavily festooned, oddly literate--if purple--prose chased by strangely detailed torture sequences that leave out crucial practical details while obsessing on others. The writing itself is mediocre enough that one could not possibly get absorbed into the story, which in this case a blessing. One thing that makes it so disturbing, I think, is a chilling distance from the helpless point-of-view character who is adrift in a warped sea of abuse with no hope in sight. Unbelievably, this is the first in a series, so there is more to come. This is pure sadistic fantasy with nothing pure about it. Sadly, there is probably a market for this kind of badly written pornography, but no one should open this book without taking very seriously eXtasy's disclaimer: "Contains extreme violence and scenes of severe abuse and torture. Heed the rating well - Trust me. This has very strong and objectionable content. In fact, the Supernova rating was created for this book."
